Dawn Hand Renewal CVS Deal ~ Frugal Hand Soap Substitute

Dish soap as hand soap

CVS deal shopping often provides opportunity for great prices on products that can be used in ways other than intended to save a family even more on their budget.  For instance I have read of using hair conditioner as shaving gel.  Recently my daughter told me our stock of hand soap was gone.  Once I get used to paying a very low price for an item I have a tendency to never buy it if I don't get that price again...not a good idea.

This is what happened with my hand soap supply.  It has been quite a while since I found a great deal. A couple weeks ago Dawn was 99¢ and I had coupons for 50¢ I had a EUREKA! moment!  Buy the Dawn Hand Renewal and use it to refill our hand soap dispensers when they are empty.  At 49¢ for nine ounces it is cheaper than any hand soap I can get currently.  And I am always looking for fillers to throw in my CVS deal shopping orders to be sure I use up all of my extra bucks I am spending.

The dish soap is a little thinner than the hand soap so it will come out quicker when pumped.  So that may take some getting used to, we will see.  It is currently at CVS on sale for 99¢ (week of 6/1/2014) and there is a coupon for 25¢ off in the 6/1 Sunday Paper and this printable for Dawn Ultra (the current printable for the Hand Renewal does not include the 99¢ size.  So if you are interested it will be 74¢.
$0.25 off Dawn Ultra
I know many of you have probably been doing this frugal switch, but for those of you like me who haven't, try it and see how you like it.  With this coupon for Dawn it's a great time to try.

What other products from CVS deals have you used for ways they weren't intended?

Even frugal-er: I use it to refill the foaming soap dispenser. I use about 3/4 water, the rest Dawn (I like the apple green and regular blue) Cap and shake to mix.

I've been doing just this for years with the cheap Dawn from CVS--but you don't need to use it full strength. I put a little in the soap dispenser and fill the rest with water. Works just fine!

Thanks for the tip of watering it down. I do that with the regular hand soap -- as it gets about 1/4 way empty I add water. The apple-green sounds wonderful, will have to try it. Thanks for commenting.

I've put shower gel in my hand soap dispensers a few times. Once in a while I buy something that no one in house will use in the shower...one time I actually stocked up heavily on a Men's Nivea shower gel deal, and my husband thought it was too drying. But we're all perfectly fine using it as a hand soap, it has a nice ocean breeze scent. I don't care for Suave shower gel either, but if I can get it for free/nearly free I would surely buy it for handsoap.

Great idea on the shower gel! I'll have to keep my eye out for deals on that, too! Thanks.
