My CVS Shopping Trip 11/20/2011 Ad ~ Small but Saved 100%: Trip #12 of the $50 Gift Card Challenge

Wow, now this was a tiny, quick trip for me.  I didn't have much time to really plan and shop this week, but I am happy with my little free trip.  I was able to get three cute Christmas cards for my 2012 Operation Christmas Child stockpile and the Excedrin is probably going to my husband's cousin, next time we take a trip, as she says it is the only pain med that works on her migraines.

I am currently doing a $50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge seeing how much I can get for a $50 gift card I earned on Swagbucks with a new CVS
Extra Care Card just like a new shopper would be able to get.

$50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge Balances:

Total Saved:  $  535.29 (including tax)
Total Spent:  $  21.29 (including tax)
Total Value of Products Purchased:  $ 522.65 (without tax)
Gift Card Balance:  $ 30.56
Gift Cards Earned in Deals Balance: $18.15
Extra Buck Balance:  $ 14.99 (I began with no extra bucks with this gift card)
Total CVS Spending Power:  $63.71

This week's trip's details:

Saved:  $ 5.75 + $ .32 tax = $  6.07 (some of my tax is paid on coupon values, this is the tax on the total product less the tax I paid--that is all I saved on tax)
Spent:  $  .00 + $ .07 tax = $ .07
Beginning Extra Bucks Balance: $ 15.00
Total Extra Bucks used:  $ 4.00
Total Extra Bucks earned:  $ 3.99
Ending Extra Bucks Balance:  $ 14.99

NOTE:  Because I often do multiple transactions my total extra bucks earned may differ from the ending extra buck balance and the total used may exceed the beginning balance as I use some from one transaction on another.

Transaction #1:

1 -- Excedrin 8 count @ $.99 get $.99 extra bucks
3 -- Hallmark Cards @ $.99 [buy three get $3 extra bucks]

Spent:  $ .00 + tax
Extra Bucks used:  $ 4.00
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 3.99

Check out these and all of this week's deals.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) how to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay for tax.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning or check out these scenarios for spending less than $5 or $10 out of pocket for several items.

You can read about all of my CVS shopping trips or check out readers' trips.

Step by Step CVS Shopping for Beginners

I started a step by step lesson series on how to begin CVS shopping as I am beginning as a "new shopper" with a new card and no extra bucks this month and will share what I am doing.

Nice trip Cheryl. What happens when you run out of cash/gift cards and only have ECB's, does that end the Challenge?

Cheryl @ Simply Shoeboxes said...

Yes, Deal Seeker, if I can't pay for the tax the extra bucks are useless. So for this challenge when the original gift card, the ones earned on this gift card and the rebate money received from items purchased on this gift card are all gone, it will end. Of course I will not throw out the ECBs, :-), but I will not say I bought those items with this gift card.

Thanks for explaining. I think I will be out soon :( ... but it was a wonderful experience. Thank you sooooo much for this site. I have learn a lot. A friend of mine is coming tomorrow for her bag of goodies that I got from CVS. Nice to be able to give to someone who is always giving to others.

That surely is an unusually small trip for you Cheryl, but I bet you are saving up your extra bucks for Black Friday.

Deal Seeker, so glad you have found the site helpful. And so super glad it has helped you share with others. How great to be able to help--especially someone who also helps who happens to be in need.

I am soooo ready for BF, JR. Love those money making deals--and such a variety. I'll probably be doing three transactions, though. don't have as many ECBs as in the past.
