My CVS Shopping Trip 10/23: Saved 100% ~ Week #7 of $50 Beginners CVS Gift Card Challenge

Not pictured:  20 photo prints.
I have been holding onto my Covergirl $8/2 coupons hoping for a great deal at CVS.  This week it was a $1 money maker for me and I have five left for next week's gift card deal.  I also was in one of the few areas that received the $4/1 Glade Sense & Spray coupons so that was a money maker for me, too.  I love to increase my extra bucks.

I also was able to get more candy for my Operation Christmas Child stockpile with the Starburst deal and I sent the candy corn to the ladies at my husband's
office who send me coupons each week.  I try to send them something now and again for sharing their coupons with me.

I am currently doing a $50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge seeing how much I can get for a $50 gift card I earned on Swagbucks with a new CVS Extra Care Card just like a new shopper would be able to get.   I began with a $50 gift card and zero extra bucks.

$50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge Balances as of Week #7:

Total Saved:  $ 267.61  (including tax)
Total Spent:  $ 12.89 (including tax)
Total Value of Products Purchased:  $ 262.76 (without tax)
Gift Card Balance:  $ 37.11
Extra Buck Balance:  $ 14.99 (I began with no extra bucks with this gift card)
Total CVS Spending Power:  $  52.10 (GC balance and ECB balance combined)

This week's trip's details:

Saved:  $ 56.00 + $ 1.89 tax = $  57.89 (some of my tax is paid on coupon values, this is the tax on the total product less the tax I paid--that is all I saved on tax)
Spent:  $  .00 + $ 1.89 tax = $ 1.89
Beginning Extra Bucks Balance: $ 13.00
Total Extra Bucks used:  $ 7.00
Total Extra Bucks earned:  $ 8.99
Ending Extra Bucks Balance:  $ 14.99

NOTE:  Because I often do multiple transactions my total extra bucks earned may differ from the ending extra buck balance and the total used may exceed the beginning balance as I use some from one transaction on another.

Transaction #1 (I only did one today):

4 -- Starburst singles @ 4/$2 get $1 extra bucks
Used 2 -- B1G1 Free Printable coupons
3 -- Glade Sense & Sprays @ $5 each spend $12 get $4 extra bucks
Used 3 -- $4/1 manufacturer coupons from recent Sunday insert
20 -- Kodak Kiosk Pictures @ $5.80 total
Used a Free 20 prints from Facebook promo on CVS last week
1 -- Candy Corn @ $.99 get $.99 extra bucks
2 -- Covergirl Blush @ $4.99 each spend $10 get $3 extra bucks (it printed at $9.98 total)
Used 1 -- $8/2 Covergirl manufacturer coupon from recent Sunday insert

Spent:  $ .00 + tax
Extra Bucks used:  $ 7.00
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 8.99

Check out these and all of this week's deals.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) how to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay for tax.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning or check out these scenarios for spending less than $5 or $10 out of pocket for several items.

My covergirl ECB did not print, it says that I am .02 short... why are others printing but not mine?

Wow, Jen, I have read of lots printing. You may want to give 800shopcvs a call and ask them about it. They are great and just may attach the ECB to your card for you. I hate that happened to you.

Did you use the Starburst/Skittle coupon from the CVS website? I printed two of those to use in one transaction of buying 4 candy singles, but the fine print says "only on coupon per transaction." Did your register accept 2 coupons?

Anon, I had printed them from the website and then from the website a second time after watching a video. I am not sure if they both said one per transaction--I didn't really notice it if it did to tell you the truth. I thought it said one per purchase from what I read online. I did use two in one transaction.

I had a newish gal checking me out and there were a couple issues with the check out and I am trying to remember about those. I know she scanned them and didn't notice she was to enter the amount. I told her she needed to and then she had issues with the register wanting to take them at first when she tried to enter the amount--but then it looked like it went in okay. Since it wasn't my regular girl, who catches when something is wrong like that and lets me know, I am not sure what happened. It took them both off--but I don't know if she had to put them in manually or not. Usually if that is the case they call a manager when they are new.

Wow, Cheryl! I know I have said it before, but you never cease to amaze me! I'm skipping CVS shopping this week, because my CVS bucks can handle another break before they expire, and I am not seeing anything worth the trip this week.

Hopefully next week has some goodies to offer you, JR.
