My 10/2 CVS Shopping Trip: Week #4 of $50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge, Saved 97%

I am still not venturing out of the house after my fall so once again Sarah did my CVS shopping for this week.  I had an elusive (to me, anyways) $4 off of $20 for her to use.  Since you never know what will be in stock I just printed off anything I was interested in for the challenge and gave her the coupons and let her decide from stock what to get.  I was hoping for the shampoo deal and I got hooked on these toothbrushes when they were free after extra bucks quite a while ago (I think it was unlimited, too) and I try to keep them stocked for free from CVS when I can get them for very little use of my built up extra bucks, so was glad for that.  Oh, and four of the shampoos had 33% more Free--a nice bonus.

I am currently doing a $50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge seeing how much I can get for a $50 gift card I earned on Swagbucks with a new CVS Extra Care Card just like a new shopper would be able to get.

$50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge Balances:

Total Saved:  $ 161.87  (including tax)
Total Spent:  $ 9.39 (including tax)
Total Value of Products Purchased:  $ 160.43 (without tax)
Gift Card Balance:  $ 40.61
Extra Buck Balance:  $ 13.67 (I began with no extra bucks with this gift card)
Total CVS Spending Power:  $ 54.28 (GC balance & ECBs total)

This week's trip's details:

Saved:  $  32.20 + $ 1.25 tax = $ 33.45 (some of my tax is paid on coupon values, this is the tax on the total product less the tax I paid--that is all I saved on tax)
Spent:  $ .24 + $ .94 tax = $ 1.18
Beginning Extra Bucks Balance: $ 13.67 (I had $2 earned from Pledging Not to Be a Money Trasher--check it out if you haven't taken the pledge yet)
Total Extra Bucks used:  $ 7.00
Total Extra Bucks earned:  $ 7.00 (earned $1 for Summer quarterly spending)
Ending Extra Bucks Balance:  $ 13.67

NOTE:  Because I often do multiple transactions my total extra bucks earned may differ from the ending extra buck balance and the total used may exceed the beginning balance as I use some from one transaction on another.

Transaction #1: (only one this week)

5 -- Dove Shampoos/Conditioners @ $3.00 each spend $15 get $5 Extra Bucks
Used 2 -- B1G1 Free Coupons from Redplum 10/2 Sunday Insert
Used 1 -- $.75/1 printable coupon

1 -- Oral B Action Toothbrush @ $5.99 get $1 extra buck
Used 1 -- $ 3.00/1 P&G 10/2 Sunday Insert

Used a $4 off $20 CVS Purchase Coupon found in my online account

Spent:  $ .24 + tax
Extra Bucks used:  $ 7.00
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 7.00 (earned $1 for Summer quarterly spending)

Check out these and all of this week's deals.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) how to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay for tax.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning or check out these scenarios for spending less than $5 or $10 out of pocket for several items.

Nice Trip! Wish I could get thought $x off $y coupons. It's been forever!

I was tickled to get one finally, Taika. My cashier and manager always say they never get them at all.

I did a similar trip without the $$ off. My turn not to get any of these. So I did:
4 dove shampoo with 2 BOGO Qs.
1 dove deodorant with a $1 Q.
2 oral B battery with 2/$3 Qs.

10 ECBs from diapers last week.

paid $3.26 for all that with $7 ECBs

Even if a trip isn't perfect, it can be an incredible deal.

Exactly, mtrentham. We get so spoiled with super low out of pocket that I think we often miss great deals because we are not willing to pay a few dollars for products worth much, much more.

None of my inserts (I'm in CA) had the BOGO coupon for Dove was that a regional coupon???

Cheryl @ Simply Shoeboxes said...

I corrected it as it was a Redplum. It may have been regional, I really don't know, I have not read of others not getting it on couponing boards, but often they are regional.

I'm impressed Cheryl! Seriously, I could not find anything of interest, but you made it happen anyway.

So many times I think there will be nothing, JR, and then CVS surprises me. Helped that I got two papers this week and an elusive $4/20!

I did not get the Dove B1G1 Coupons here in Fayetteville. But my mom did in Ohio. I went to CVS and they wouldn't let me use the .75 off coupon. I can't win for loosing this week haha!

Cheryl @ Simply Shoeboxes said...

Ashley, I have read of other areas not getting them, too. I was surprised they were in my small town paper. Glad I got two this week. Why didn't they allow the 75 cent one?
