My 10/16 CVS Shopping Trip: Week #6 of $50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge, Tax Only

This was a very little deal shopping week for me at CVS.  But still a nice little haul for less than tax and a nice variety--I always like that much better than a dozen of the same thing.  I tucked away the Almay for my oldest daughter's stocking--I have been slow on the cosmetic deals this year so I need to get my act together so she has a stocking full.  Sarah and I collect all year and give it to her in her stocking and it keeps her thru the next year usually.  I really liked the little money maker on the dial bar soap--something I almost always have to "pay" for.

Well, here is my mini trip and my Gift Card Balances.  I love how you can increase your "spending power" at CVS--my $50 GC only has $39 on it,
but since I have $13 in extra bucks I actually have more to spend than before I shopped six times with it.

I am currently doing a $50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge seeing how much I can get for a $50 gift card I earned on Swagbucks with a new CVS Extra Care Card just like a new shopper would be able to get.   I began with a $50 gift card and zero extra bucks.

$50 Beginner's CVS Gift Card Challenge Balances:

Total Saved:  $ 209.72  (including tax)
Total Spent:  $ 11.00 (including tax)
Total Value of Products Purchased:  $ 206.76 (without tax)
Gift Card Balance:  $ 39.00
Extra Buck Balance:  $ 13.00 (I began with no extra bucks with this gift card)
Total CVS Spending Power:  $ 52.00 (GC balance and ECB balance combined)

This week's trip's details:

Saved:  $ 16.71 + $ .20 tax = $ 16.91 (some of my tax is paid on coupon values, this is the tax on the total product less the tax I paid--that is all I saved on tax)
Spent:  $  -.36 + $ .90 tax = $ .54 (because my manufacturer coupons were scanned last it paid for some of the tax putting my subtotal in the negative)
Beginning Extra Bucks Balance: $ 12.67
Total Extra Bucks used:  $ 5.67
Total Extra Bucks earned:  $ 6.00 (earned $1 for Green Bag Tag usage)
Ending Extra Bucks Balance:  $ 13.00

NOTE:  Because I often do multiple transactions my total extra bucks earned may differ from the ending extra buck balance and the total used may exceed the beginning balance as I use some from one transaction on another.

Transaction #1 (just one this week):

Spent:  $ -.36 + $ .90 tax =  $.54
Extra Bucks used:  $ 5.67
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 6.00 ($1 was for Green Bag Tag usage)

1--Dawn Dish Soap @ .97
Used 1 -- $.50/1 Manufacturer coupon from recent Sunday insert

1--Almay @ $ 5.99 get $ 4.00 extra bucks
Used 1 -- $1/1 Manufacturer coupon from recent Sunday Walmart Ad

1 -- Dial 3 pack bar soap @ $.188 get $1 Extra Buck (this is a month long deal with a limit of two--must be done in separate transactions to get both extra bucks)
Used 1 -- $2/1 any dial CVS coupon received in an email

2 -- Orbit Gums @ $1.49 each B1G1 Free Sale
Used 1 -- B1G1 Free CVS scanner coupon

3 -- Theraflu Trial Size @ $.99 each
Used 1 -- $3/2 printable manufacturer coupon (no longer available) [since the $3 exceeded the price of the two products the overage went towards a third one and it actually scanned at the full $3 not the $2.97

Check out these and all of this week's deals.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) how to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay for tax.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning or check out these scenarios for spending less than $5 or $10 out of pocket for several items.
