New CVS Coupon Policy ~ Unofficial, but Soon to Be Available in Writing

There have been changes in the CVS coupon policy and as of now all is verbal.  But it is reported they will have it available in print sometime in the fall.  Here is the policy as read to We Use Coupons member DealLovingDiva and posted by Didie there:

These are the policy words that were read to DealLovingDiva by CVS over the phone:

Example #1)  If an item is on sale at CVS for $5.99 BOGO, can a
customer use 2 x $3/1 MQs against the sale to make both items FREE?

Answer:  NO, the consumer may only use 1 MQ, and 1 applicable store coupon for this sale. The 2 items will ring up as ONE purchase, and will attach. Therefore, you may NOT use 2 MQs, as that would be too many.

Example #2)  If soap is on sale at CVS for $5.99, can the customer use a BOGO free MQ and a $3/1 MQ against this to make them both $3.00?

Answer:  NO, the consumer may NOT use 2 together on this single purchase (even though there are technically 2 items), you may chose one or the other (either the BOGO MQ OR $3/1 MQ.... NOT the BOGO MQ w/ 1 - $3/1 MQ TOGETHER). The BOGO MQ is going to attach 2 items as one purchase in the register.

Example #3)  If CVS has a BOGO sale on soap for $5.99, can a customer use a BOGO MQ for soap making them BOTH FREE?

Answer- YES, the consumer may use a BOGO MQ against the CVS BOGO sale on soap to receive BOTH items free of charge, and pay applicable state tax.

We can also use 2 coupons on a BOGO 50% off sale.

** Some stores have not received this memo yet, so they are all still in the process of moving over to the new policy. **

So, this is what you can expect at sometime in the future if your store is not implementing them yet.  I'll watch for the "official" policy in writing and let you know when I see it.  This will make it sooo much easier if they have a written policy.

It sure will be eaiser for the people on both sides of the counter.

CVS is the most coupon friendly store I've found so I'm sure not complaining!

JR, it is sad how much it has changed over the last couple of years. Since I started this site it has been harder to get a great deal. But with the extra bucks program there will always be good savings to be had at CVS.

Anon, they are very coupon friendly (as a corporate group, I know there are some stores that are not). I agree, we will still be able to save a lot at CVS.

thanks for sharing this information cheryl! i (and i'm sure many others) appreciate all the hard work you do to stay on top of policies to keep us updated/couponing correctly!
yes, bummer on the stricter policy, but i think us couponers are smart and will still find fantastic deals even with the new policy (i'm very glass half full!) :)

Great thoughts, Anon!!! Thanks, and we will keep trying to find all the ways to save we can and enjoy our "new" CVSing!

Cheryl, Do you know if we will still be able to use 2 Manufacturer coupons on a 2/$-- Deal (i.e. 2 Deodorants for $5)? Or is the new policy only for BOGO deals? Thanks!

It does not bother me, I always found it weird to use a coupon on a free item. It was a cheat in the system, not our faults but their own policies.

I will keep shopping CVS and still happy!

what bothers me is that a BOGO sale is just a fancy way of having a 50% off sale but they make you buy 2 products to get them 50% off. We SHOULD be allowed to use 2 manuf coupons on it!!!

2 products leave the store, they can redeem 2 coupons from the manuf

Anon, two coupons in that scenario would be fine. Each one will ring up with a price of its own.

I agree with Sobeida .. Why wouldnt a corporation want to pass along savings that they could indeed recieve for the product? turning the manu in and passing savings on to customers?? Kinda like cutting the hand off that feeds ya...

Christine, I have recently read that the manufacturer's are pushing stores to do this--now if that is true or not is another thing.
