CVS Snippet: Clearance Items May Not Count Towards Extra Buck Deals

There has been a lot of chatter lately of the beauty extra buck deals at CVS and the clearance cosmetics.  It is obvious from all the comments here and on couponing boards that clearance at CVS no longer counts towards extra buck deals on clearance cosmetics.  But many other reports are that it does in other areas of the store.

The purpose of the CVS Snippet Series is to give CVS shoppers morsels of information about the many variables that will help them get the most out of their weekly deal shopping.

HI Cheryl,
thanks for posting this.
I think I emailed you a few weeks ago on the exact topic.

I have also confirm this with 2 other CVS. I was not sure if this was a new policy or what happened. The ECB's just wont print if the items are on clearance if it is the brand specific.

For example:
If you the deal is buy $15 of Revlon and get $5 ECB's back. I would of looked for the clearance and try to get as many item for the cheapest price. But if these items are reduces that will prevent the ECB's from printing.

When I asked the mgr about this she did point out that the clerance poster does specify that cleranced items can not be combine with any other offers...ECB's reward included.

Now it is is sad, but the rules are the rules.

Happy CVSing

Yes, I have heard from many readers, Anoushka. It is sad it has changed, but there are still great deals to be found!

Did it change for the Beauty Club too? I know it doesn't work for the weekly ECB deals but I thought clearance purchases do count towards the spend $50 get 5 ECB for the Beauty Club

Meg, I forgot about the beauty club, I do believe it DOES count (so far anyways). Thanks for that reminder.

I actually had this problem with the Physicians Formula on sale this week. Bought 4 items on sale, total over $10, used their CVS coupon and paid $2 out of pocket. I was expecting the $7 ECB to print (it didn't, cashier said it ws because they were clearanced items).

However, I called customer service and told them that the add said ANY Physicians formula cosmetic. They said they will be issuing me the $7 ECB and I shoud be able to print it out soon. Hope this helps.

the manager at my store said that clearance and B1G1 do not count towards ECB

Hi Cheryl and All,

At this point, it does count toward the Beauty Club. I know this for sure because through purchase of items on clearance and through the weekly sales only I have already earned my first reward and am almost half way toward my second! The great thing is, I have only spent about $25+tax total at CVS since January on all purchases.

Lori, they have such great customer service. Nice tip, thanks for letting us know.

I have never heard of B1G1 not counting, Jennifer, interesting.

Thanks, Rebecca, for clarifying this, I thought someone had commented to that affect, but I didn't have the details to be sure. Nice you didn't really spend the whole $50 to get it.

I think it all depends on what you are buying as far as clearance items & ECBs. I bought Dove shampoo on clearance the other day & was pleasantly surprised when it showed up as credit towards the Dove deal this week. I also can confirm that the clearance beauty items do count towards the $50 beauty purchase.
