My CVS Shopping Trip 1/14 ~ Saved $105 (80%)

Okay, a confession here:  I had dwindled my Extra Bucks to a disreputable amount. I only had $4!  I don’t think I have been that low since I started CVSing several years ago.  I had received a $15 CVS gift card for Christmas and decided to splurge on the
Pepsi/Lay’s deal with it (that is luxury food in our house—not a necessity so I felt better using my gift).  But I had to do a couple other transactions to get to that one.

I try to really stock up on Kleenex this time year so I wanted to be sure and invest some money in that one—with the coupons I had each box was only about $.50.  They didn’t get the 3-packs in so they substituted single packs.  And I had enough of the Finish/Air Wick coupons to pay $9.50 and get the $10.00 extra bucks so I did that.  Anyways, here is what I got and how I paid:

Total Trip:
Saved:  $ 105.31 or 80%
Spent:  Sub-total:  $ 27.00, tax:  $ 4.41, Total:  $ 31.41 [used my Christmas $15 GC] (there have been total years of shopping at CVS that I did not spend that much—before I had to pay tax on extra bucks used and when I would get $5/30’s; so this is a shocker for me but part of my new strategy to “Spend more/Save more”)
Extra Bucks used:  $ 26.48
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 32.48 (but I rolled them from one transaction to the next, so I only have $10 left)

NOTE:  I do not figure in the extra bucks earned in the % saved, I will figure those in the week I use them.  I also figure the % saved before the tax, as I also saved tax by not spending the full amount and that would take quite some figuring.  So my % saved is the total saved off the total original price before tax and extra bucks earned.

Transaction #1:
Spent:  Sub-total:  $ 6.48, tax:  $ 1.90, Total:  $ 8.38
Extra Bucks used:  $  4.00
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 12.48

2—**Airwick Freshmatic Ultra Kits (only one is pictured) @ $6.00 each [used two $4.00/1 manufacturer coupons]
2--**Finish @ $3.00 each [used two $2.25/1 manufacturer coupons]
1--**Lysol Spray @ $4.00 [used a $1/1 manufacturer coupon]
**These were included in a buy $20 get $10 back in extra bucks. So I did this first so I had them to put on the second transaction which had a very high total.
1—Dove candy bar @ $.89 get $.89 extra bucks [used a $.50/1 CVS Scanner coupon]
1—Reese’s @ $1.59 get $1.59 extra bucks

Transaction #2:
Spent:  Sub-total:  $ 10.52, tax:  $ 2.02, Total:  $12.54
Extra Bucks used:  $ 12.48 (from transaction #1)
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 10.00

1—**Cottonelle Wipe refill @ $2.00
24--**Kleenex @ $1.00 each (these were supposed to be 3-pks for $3, but they substituted the singles) [used 6 $.50/3 Kleenex manufacturer coupons, some were printables from coupons.com, but I am not sure they are still available]
** both a part of buy $25 get $10 extra buck deal.

 Transaction #3:
Spent:  Sub-total:  $ 10.00, tax:  $ .49, Total:  $ 10.49
Extra Bucks used:  $ 10.00 (from transaction #2)
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 10.00

3—12 pks Pepsi @ 3/$10
4—Lays Chips @ 2/$5
Total of $20 for the buy $20 get $10 extra bucks deal.

There were some great clearance items, too, we found. I may be going back with coupons.  You can see what Sarah found and shared in the Clearance post or the Garnier Fructis free conditioner after printable coupon post.

Check out these and all of this week's deals.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay for tax.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning or check out these scenarios for spending less than $5 or $10 out of pocket for several items.

You can read about all of my CVS shopping trips or check out what deals others got this week and if you blog about your CVS weekly shopping trips link up there, if not, share your deal details there in a comment.

Great job! I botched my CVS trip and didn't break it into to transactions. That is ok, because now I have some ECB left over!

I always had plenty of extra bucks so I didn't have to divide it, but not the last few weeks--a new trend for me.

You sure got a lot of stuff for that gift card, and you still have money left over:)

I have to go to CVS this week, because I have some CVS bucks that expires soon. I just hope I will actually get the time I need to do it, as I have had to rush every time I have gone shopping for the past weeks.

I hope you can get plenty of unrushed time and that they are offering a great deal on something you need, JR.
