My CVS Shopping Trip 11/15 ~ Saved $42.95 Paid Tax Only

Lately in my weekly CVS shopping I keep using more extra bucks than I get back.  I work hard at not doing that, but I have decided to get more deals, saving more overall in my budget, than playing the "don't use up any extra bucks" game.  I used to get $/$$ coupons which helped me get the extra deals without extra bucks, but since I don't get those any longer I have cut back on what I get.  I wrote about my changing CVS shopping strategies awhile back.
I mentioned I was trying to make sure I got at least one item to donate each
week in an earlier post. I thought I'd highlight the items I'll be donating each week.

Here is what I got and how I paid:
Saved:  $ 42.95
Spent:  $ $.43 (tax only, sub-total was negative $.27)
Extra Bucks used:  $ 17.00 (ouch!)
Extra Bucks earned:  $ 10.00

4 -- Ragus @ 3/$5 spend $10 get $3 extra bucks [used 2 -- $.60/2 printable coupons (no longer available)]
2 -- Skippy @ 3/$5 spend $10 get $3 extra bucks [used 2 -- $.50/1 insert coupons from 11/14]
2 -- Palmolive @ $.99/each [used 1 -- $.40/1 coupon I received in the mail and 1 -- $.25/1 insert coupon from 11/14]
1 -- Ocean Spray Cranberry [for Hubby when we have turkey on Christmas]
1 -- Herbal Essence @ $2.99 get $2.00 extra bucks [used a $2/1 Clairol Family coupon from recent insert]
1 -- Fiber One Bars @ $3.99 get $3.00 extra bucks [used a $.50/1 Printable]
2 -- Pastas @ $1.00/each from the 10/$10 aisle [used 2 -- buy 2 Ragu get 1 free pasta up to $1.25 insert coupons from 11/14]*
4 -- Sobe @ $1.59/ea buy one get one free [used a raincheck for b1g1 and had two "free" coupons that came recently from the previous Sobe game--so all 4 were free]
1 -- Blistex @ $3.29 get $1.50 extra bucks--nice, Hubby just told me he ran out [used a $.55/1 insert coupon from 11/14]**

* These actually took off $1.25/each when she scanned them. I pointed it out but she said they scanned that way so it was fine.  Because of this I went in the hole for the total by $.36 so I had to grab something else so got the second Palmolive since I had taken an extra coupon in case my extra bucks were of the wrong amount and I needed something else.

**The $1.50 extra buck did not print for this.  It was the only size of this type I saw in the store and it was within the sizes listed, but am not sure why it did not print.  So she printed one and it printed for $2 since all extra bucks that they "force" to print round up to the next dollar. So that turned out nice.

Check out these and all of this week's deals.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) how to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay less tax here.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out this post about how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning or check out this scenario for spending less than $5 out of pocket for several items.

You can read about all of my CVS shopping trips or check out what others did this week.  How'd you do this week?  If you blog about your CVS weekly shopping trips link here, if not, share your savings in a comment there.  I really enjoy seeing all the weekly CVS deals others get.

Great Trip! I agree - I try to maximize the savings for my family while keeping an eye on my ECB's instead of trying not to use more than I receive!

I definitely need to refocus, Saving Our Way. I just got spoiled for years of shopping and getting well over $100 each week of stuff that I need to relearn. lol

You did awesome! I too try and focus on savings and not worry about ecb's, but I just started shopping at CVS this year so I don't know what I am missing! lol
I have a weekly shopping budget so as long as I stay within that I am doing great!

Missy, I was doing so great at CVS and grocery stores a year ago that I hate to pay much for anything anymore. NOT a good idea. I had a game where I tried for a few months to see how very little I could pay and I got in the habit. Now I need to do what you do--set an amount and the game be to stay under it, not keep my extra bucks rolling. It is encouraging to hear from others about their strategies.
