CVS Shopping Trip for the Week of 8/15 Saved $155.16; Spent $.72

I really used up the extra bucks this week in my CVS shopping. Ouch!  I am at the lowest amount I have been in a loooong time!  I goofed on the deodorant--I misread the signs or the product was in the wrong slot (I thought I had checked the signs) so I got really expensive deodorant, oh well, live and learn.  I still get overwhelmed by it all--amazed at what I am getting--that I get too involved in a "happy dance" that I forget the details sometimes.  And I am always chatting with someone--no one's a stranger to me, I have my grandfather to thank for that trait: I remember him talking with everyone in the grocery store when I was visiting him each summer on vacation--that I don't concentrate on my deals.  So any of you who are new to CVS shopping, don't feel badly when something doesn't go like you expect--you are not alone.

Oh, and I ordered seven cases of Sobe to pick up later this week.  I have been playing that Sobe game every day and have tons of coupons to use. I sure hope those I donate it to like it.  The Pepsi man was there when I was shopping (I see him every Monday) so I asked him if I could order some from him and he said sure what flavor do you like?  I had to tell him I had no idea--I didn't drink it so to just give me one case of each flavor.

Here is what I got and how I paid:

Saved:  $155.16
Spent:  $.72 (I always pay with gift cards that I earn online or from prescription purchases so that my out of budget money is $.00)
Extra Bucks used:  $30.99
Extra Bucks earned:  $14.99

I used a $5/30 coupon on the following (Here is an older post I wrote about my strategy for using these $ off total order amount coupons):

4 -- Caliber Notebooks @ 2/$1 [used 2 $1/2 Caliber CVS Scanner coupons printed last week]
2 -- Caliber Glue @ $.99 B1G1 [used $1/2 Caliber CVS Scanner coupon printed last week]
2 -- Emerald nuts @ $1/ea [used $1.50/2 manufacturer insert coupon]
4 -- Tasters Choice singles @ $1/ea [used 2 B1G1 and 2 $.75/1 printables from their website]
1 -- Zegerid OTC $9.99 get $7 ECB [used a $3/1 manufacturer insert coupon]
1 -- Blink Tears $7.99 get $7.99 ECB [used a $1.50/1 printable coupon]
1 -- Laptop Stand @ $11.24
6 -- Sobe @ $1.59/ea B1G1 Sale [used 3 B1G1 printables form Sobe Game]
16 -- Dry Idea & Right Guard  B1G1 sale (7 @ $5.89, 1 @ $4.99, 4 @ $4.69, 4 @ $4.49) [used 8 B1G1 manufacturer insert coupons up to $4.49--so this is where I really messed up, at least I had enough extra bucks to give to cover it)

You can see which of these items I will be donating here.

You can find all of these deals and more on the current CVS deals post page here and look over the weekly ad and remember you can check the We Use Coupons or the Hot Coupon World coupon databases for coupons for items in the ad that I don't have any listed for.  Also, read how I have learned (from others) how to "stack" the coupons in the right order to pay less tax here.  Some states have to pay tax on extra buck usage and some don't so it may or may not affect your CVS shopping.  And if you don't have any, or many, extra bucks check out this post about how to have the least out of pocket cash when beginning.

How'd you do this week?

That's amazing! I had no idea you could order things. I've just been going from CVS to CVS wasting time trying to find SoBe! (I only love the Fuji Apple Pear flavor)

As far as I know all stores will, but you have to check with yours, Elizabeth. Since it is limited to 6 deals this week I don't know how your stores would handle it, but that is 12 each and they come in cases of 12 so you could order one from each store even. I used to get the ad each week and order any great extra buck deal items so she would have them in stock. Now she just has stock because she got used to looking for the best deals and ordering.

Great Trip. By the way, where did you get the $5/30 CVS Coupon? I never seem to be able to find these. Just did a CVS trip yesterday and would have loved to have that coupon. Thanks.

Simply Pris, it was actually from an Email. Are you signed up? Look under "tips and tricks" tab and there should be a post listed about signing up for emails. I actually never get them, I use my daughter's card because she does.

Hi Cheryl,

I've been reading alot about how the bogo coupon for right guard and dry idea had a limit of $4.49. I used 4 of these coupons last Sunday and got 4 of each. The dry idea was $5.89 each and that's what the cashier put in for the value of the coupon! With coupons and ecb's I got 8 deodorants,1 blink tears and 2 10 pks of cvs batteries for $2.12(just paid tax)! I saved $65.49 and got back $7.99 in ecb! Thank you for showing me how awesome CVS is!!!

What a great trip, Crystal!! You are very welcome, too. Yes, B1G1 coupons often have a limit--but if not read closely it can be missed. I am so glad to hear you are enjoying the benefits of CVSing!

Just went to cvs today. The cashier messed up my Right guard B1G1 coupon. I bought 2 RG at $4.49 each and 2 Dry Idea at $4.19 each. The register automatically took off 1 of each and when she rang up my coupons she took each at $4.19 even though I asked her to make sure she got the amounts right. She told me the register took off $4.49 each and the coupon $4.19. It was only .30 cents more, but I even asked and she still got it wrong

It was still a great trip as I got a $25 gift card for getting a prescription and my total for 4 deo, 4 SOBE, blink drops, purex sheets, Dawn hand soap, emerald nuts, a razor, and crest mouthwash and toothpaste was $2.56 with tax (.98 before). I put that on the gift card so nothing OOP. I then got back $19.99 in ECB. I did use $14.99 in ECB and a $4/$20 that I got from the scanner.

Julie, I can relate. You saved all that money, came out ahead with the extra bucks, but the $.30 on each of two deodorants haunts you. I think we work so hard to figure this all out and we also know how far we can make a dollar go at CVS that when our transactions get messed it up it is aggravating. You sure got a cart full!

Wow, Cheryl! You got so much stuff...and even a laptop desk! Awesome! It's good to hear that even the best can make mistakes at the CVS game, that makes the rest of us feel a little better:)

There is a CVS about 1 mile from my youngest son's new school, but I'm not sure how often I'll make it there, as I already have to walk 13 miles total everyday just by walking to and from and in between schools.

I forgot to Thank you for participating in the The Wednesday Window . I hope you will join me again next Wednesday.

Yup, FrugalMom, I goof up :-). I almost think it would better to shop at a new CVS and try not to chat too much:-).

Cheryl said...

Oh, and what's another two miles to be able to CVS?? LOL Just kidding! I think it is great how you and the boys walk all over. I miss walking--where I grew up we walked all over like you, here I am miles and miles from everything.

So that's where all the Right Guard Deodorant went, lol!

Awesome savings by the way and thanks for linking!

LOL, Saving A Bundle, my store used to be always out of stock, not anymore. My manager checks on the great deals and stocks up. If I know I am going to get a LOT of something, I have her order it for me so I don't clear shelves.

Cheryl....I have a question about the SOBE. I also have LOTS of the SOBE coupons. My stores are very strict with the limit of 6. Here's my question. When it's a BOGO and a Limit 6, what is the total number of SOBEs that I should be able to get? 6 or 12? I understand it to mean 6 deals which would make it 12, but the stores are telling me that I can only get 6 TOTAL.

Cheryl said...

Hi, Laura, the register recognizes it as 12. So if they would ring up the full 12 the register would take off 6. And remember, if you are ever in doubt about what they are telling you call 800shopcvs and ask them (don't mention the store, just ask the question--unless you were treated badly).

OMG that is a great deal, I almost missed it. My old man writes everything on legal tabs and this is a great price! I got 2 and got a rain check, I also found out today that my cvs takes expired cvs coupons!
( no expired manf, just the coupons that print at the machine and ecb) So I got to hunt down the rest of these 1/2 coupons that I KNOW are in my car..... the trunk perhaps....

Cheryl said...

Great, Bryana!! My store will take them for one week--for myself and my daughter since I asked and another local store does (well it is 30 minutes away, but the same district) but she doesn't do it for everyone.

You did amazing! Great to know about ordering! It seems if I don't get to my CVS Saturday night, everything I want is gone all week. Thanks so much!
