CVS Returns When Purchased with Extra Bucks

Returns at CVS with a receipt are simple--they have great customer service and if you have a problem with a product they will make it right.  But what happens when you don't pay cash? When you use an Extra Buck to pay for your item you want to return?  Each receipt has a bar code that will scanned before the item to be returned is
scanned.  This ensures that the item was purchased on that receipt and the proper dollar amount will be returned.  If extra bucks were used to pay and the balance is, say, tax only the register will want to only return up to the amount paid with cash.  The cashier will have to override this and the return will put on a "money card," which is what they also use for returns with no receipt.  It is used just like a gift card.

but the white manicure pen seems to be old.and the polish is chipping...so i wanna return it.if i return will cvs return me cvs card for $6+cash or only pay me the cash i paid.thanks in advance.

Lee, you should get UP TO the cash amount you paid out on the total transaction and the balance of the 12.99 on a CVS card. so if your out of pocket for the total transaction was, say, $8.00 you can get that in cash and the balance of the $12.99 plus tax on the CVS money card.

Catherine, was the total $9 before you paid, and you paid cash? Or was it $9 after you used some extra bucks to pay for part of it?

thanks for responding so promptly, I really appreciate your help!

my total out of pocket was $9. my before coupons/ebs was 30.

Okay, you should get the $9 in cash back. Then the balance of the total of the four items will be put on a store card (used like a gift card). If you run into any problems--like they say they can only give you the cash out of pocket paid, tell them you understand you are to receive a store card for the balance paid with extra bucks. If they still don't want to, take it all back from them and call 800shopcvs and talk with them about it. Once in a while I have read of shoppers not knowing this and only getting the cash because the cashier didn't know what to do.

ok so to make sure I am reading correctly...I will get my $9 back in cash, then I will the ecb dollar amounts on a money card? i used 5.99 in ecbs so i'll get a 5.99 money card? okk i think i get it! just one more question, what about the coupons i used, will i get those values back on the money card or no?

thank you so much for your help, sorry to badger with questions, but cvs can be tricky and i want to go in prepared!

really thank you so much!

It can be more than tricky :-). As far as I know they will ignore the coupons completely. I have only returned things a couple of times like this, but when I did they didn't ask if I had used any of the coupons towards the item I was returning. They just totaled what I should get back, gave me cash for oop and then the moneycard. But as you know, things can vary by store or cashier even. Let me know how it goes :-). And ask away, if I know I'll gladly share my knowledge with you.

Hi cherryl,

I bought 5 g series fit and received $5 extra buck back. However, i notice the cashier was over charge me and wanted to return it back to store. Do I have to return the extra buck back to the store when I return the g series fit. Thanks, trinity

Trinity, they should be able to just return it and re-ring it with the correct price and give you back the difference. But when I have had to return something which gave extra bucks I just tear them up, they don't ask for them back.

The one time I returned something I had earned extra bucks back I asked what to do with the ones I had earned and they said I could keep them and they didn't care. Maybe it varies by store, I'm not really sure. But you obviously should not make a habit of returning ECB item.
